Our Story 

Greentree Home is an eco-conscious, woman-owned company. We have been designing and producing handmade beeswax candles in the Western Catskill Mountains of New York State for over 20 years.

 Jenifer Green founded Greentree Home in 2000. She feels that creativity is the lifeblood that makes our everyday lives spectacular. She operates her business very much like an artist eagerly greets a fresh canvas – with a delicate mix of confidence, chance, and instinct. Green hand selects and sculpts objects that appeal to her aesthetic value and inspire a sense of personal significance. The Greentree Home aesthetic is very much shaped by Green's sense of style and passion for the creative process.

Equally important to the intent and process is the choice of material. Green sees beeswax as the ideal choice for candles: "When one of our candles is lit, not only does it burn cleanly, it transforms the object and gives off a sweet scent and luminous glow." The use of 100% North American beeswax remains at the heart of the company's sustainability practices. Even as company orders have grown over the years, Green maintains small batch and made-to-order production, refusing to sacrifice the quality of a handmade product.

Greentree Home  produces a contemporary collection using a vivid palette of 22 colors. Each candle is individually hand-poured and finished by a talented team of makers. From Ropes to Twigs, 10 distinctive taper styles play with the classic candle contour. Each taper celebrates the timeless purpose of handmade, beeswax designs: to make every moment special. 20 unique, sculptural renderings elevate candles into aesthetic designs. Why Beeswax 

Our candles are made from 100% pure domestic beeswax. One of nature's perfect products, beeswax is simply a natural wax made by bees – which can then be carefully collected from hives by beekeepers. Learn more about sustainable beeswax harvesting in our article, Queen Honeycomb.
The benefits of beeswax are abundant.

Burning beeswax is good for you! Walk outside after a thunderstorm and the air will smell clean and fresh. That's because the lightning creates negative ions. These ions attach themselves to the pollutants in the air. They then become heavy and fall to the ground. Burning pure beeswax candles in your home gives you and your loved ones the same air cleansing effect. 100% beeswax candles give off negative ions as they burn, gently removing dust, dirt, odors, and other pollutants from the air we breathe.
 
Beeswax burns clean and beautiful! Since beeswax candles have a high melting point – approximately 145 degrees Fahrenheit – they burn slowly. This results in a much longer burn, and little to no drip.
 
Our beeswax candles are made with three simple and safe ingredients! Beeswax, cotton, and dye. In addition to 100% beeswax for the candles themselves, we also use 100% cotton for our candle wicks. To create our color palette, we use aniline dyes that are specifically formulated for beeswax.
 
Beware of other candles and waxes! Reading labels and product information closely before purchasing. Paraffin – a sludge waste product from the petroleum industry – is the major ingredient in many conventional candles. Paraffin releases carcinogenic chemicals when it burns. These soot/fumes are similar to that released from a diesel engine and can be as dangerous as second-hand cigarette smoke, contributing to serious respiratory issues such as asthma.
 
Beeswax is non-toxic and about as natural a product as you can find! We recommend beeswax candles for asthmatics, as well as to anyone who is allergic or sensitive to scents. Our unscented, 100% beeswax candles do have a very subtle and natural scent of honey – however, we do not add any scents to our candles.
